ANNE CULLUM: In Search of the "Higher Story"
STATEMENT
As an abstract painter, I explore themes of personal growth and spiritual pursuits. My compositions emerge from chance markings, and concepts evolve from embracing obstacles as opportunities. In exploring the uncertainty of pivotal spaces, everyone wrestles with tension, many search for meaning, but who among us pursues peace and wisdom that transcends absolutes? My hope is to invite viewers to discover a visual language of the soul in which, often, there are no words. And to consider their own paths of self-discovery, establishing a universal dialogue of resilience, transformation, and hope within the higher story of our human experience.
BIO
Anne Cullum is an abstract painter whose compositions explore resilience, transformation, and spiritual pursuit. Appalachian born and raised, her creativity was cultivated through generational storytelling, shaping her imagination and resourcefulness as the practice of possibilities through experimentation, invention, and ideas.
In 2001, her creative ventures followed her to Jacksonville, where her art found collectors in North Florida and throughout the United States. Despite her professional success, she later paused her career to raise her family and navigate her battle with ovarian cancer. Drawing from the strength of her roots, Anne has returned to the studio with renewed perspective. Her work continues to evolve as she embraces obstacles as opportunities. Through her paintings, she hopes to invite viewers to consider their own paths and discover a visual language of the soul, shaped by the universal dialogue of hope within the higher story of our human experience.
