ANNE CULLUM: A Journey Through Color, Form, and Texture
STATEMENT
As an abstract painter, I explore themes of personal growth and spiritual pursuits. My compositions emerge from chance markings and flow from pivotal spaces between wrestling with tension, searching for meaning, and obtaining wisdom that transcends absolutes. My hope is to invite viewers to discover a visual language of the soul in which, often, there are no words. And to consider their own paths of self-discovery, establishing a universal dialogue of resilience, transformation, and hope within the "higher story of our human experience.
BIO
From an early age, Anne Cullum understood art as a transformative vehicle. Her creative interests were significantly shaped through North Carolina public school programs that provided underprivileged children with equal access to the arts, allowing her opportunities to encounter beauty and culture otherwise beyond her reach. As the first in her family to graduate college, Anne's desire to study fine arts was unrealized as a "luxury" she couldn't afford. Nevertheless, she persisted, as her creative endeavors followed her to Jacksonville, Florida, in 2001 and have continued unfolding ever since. Although her distinctive work became featured among collectors and available across the U.S., despite her professional success, she intentionally paused her career for a season to nurture her young family, confident that her art would always be waiting. Although her hiatus was prolonged by a battle with ovarian cancer, Anne Cullum's return to the art world marks not just a continuation of her journey but a profound evolution. Her work is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring force of art to challenge, inspire, and uplift those who encounter it.
